Pre-film event: Science@Sunset
Title: A Space Odyssey – Advancing our Territory in Space
As the sun sets, join us for a conversation with local thinkers and do-ers:
Before the 50 year anniversary screening of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001 A Space Odyssey; join a panel of experts as they discuss the topic “It’s not just about rocket science.”
Australia was the third nation ever to launch a satellite into space just over 50 years ago, however the Australian Space Agency only went live on 1st July, 2018.
Now the NT is set to have an Arnhem Space Centre, thanks to the investment of Equatorial Launch Australia. But what will this mean for the Territory? What will this mean for society in general? How might space exploration affect extra-terrestrial environments? Are we in the NT really ready to go there…yet?
Expert panel, so far…
- Stefan Maier – Maitec, satellite remote sensing expert & steering committee member Earth Observation Australia.
- Lenore Dembski – Paperbark Woman & member of the Northern Institute Advisory Council.
- Claire George – NT Department of Trade, Business & Innovation – leading the implementation of policies and initiatives to accelerate the development of Northern Australia.
